Elvis Presley – The U.K. Sun Sessions Released

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

We are proud to announce the immediate release of Elvis Presley – The U.K. Sun Sessions.

In the compiling of the Sun Master recording in London in the 50s, it was understood that several of the actual acetates used in the day served as a pre-recording demo, essentially showing a song to a singing artist. We have provided the actual recordings of both master and acetate demos not to often heard these days for your full experience in listening and discovering Mr. E.P.’s beginning.

Jackdawg to be featured on “Classic Artists Today” Podcast

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

We’ve just received the following update from Ray White of Classic Artists Today (The CAT.) Be sure to tune in!

Before the Doobie Brothers performance in Newport News, VA this past Sunday, we had the pleasure to interview the Doobie Brothers’ John McFee.  We talked about his Jackdawg project that was recorded in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  The late Keith Knudsen of the Doobies, along with Stu Cook – formerly of Creedence Clearwater Revival joined John in Jackdawg.  We are scheduled to air part of the interview with John on our weekly syndicated radio show,  Classic Artists Today – “The Best Songs Today…From Yesterday’s Top Artists,” during the week of January 5th, 2009.  We’ll also play a song from the Jackdawg CD, and a “classic” Doobie Brothers song with John.

If you can’t wait that long to hear a song from the “Jackdawg” CD, we will be playing a track on “The C.A.T.” during our show airing the week starting Monday, December 8th.  Visit our Web Sites at www.classicartiststoday.com and www.myspace.com/classicartiststoday to learn more about our show that features “new” (or previously unreleased) tracks from “classic” artists.  Information on our Radio Station affiliates (how you can tune-in) and show times can be found on our site.  All of our shows are also simulcast on the Net!

For information on “Jackdawg,” and/or to purchase the album, visit www.sonicpastmusic.com   We’re working on lining up another Doobie Brothers special during the first quarter of 2009 – stay tuned to Classic Artists Today!!

Thank you to John for spending some time with us and to The Doobie Brothers – for another great show!!

Sonic Past Music Releases More Treasure -  “Jackdawg” – the never before released recordings of a trio consisting of Doobie Brothers / Clover guitarist John McFee, Creedence Clearwater Revival bassist Stu Cook, and long time Doobie drummer, the late Keith Knudsen.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2008 — Sonic Past Music releases Jackdawg. – The never before released recordings of a trio consisting of Doobie Brothers / Clover guitarist John McFee, Creedence Clearwater Revival bassist Stu Cook, and long time Doobie drummer, the late Keith Knudsen. Available at SonicPastMusic.com.

Jackdawg

This is earthy, creative, truly innovative rock at its finest – the music itself was the only goal here, which is perhaps why it has taken so long for these recordings to become available to the listening public. You can hear the fun in the music, and almost all the material was written by the three members together. The only “outside” songs are Jackdawg’s swampy renditions of Roky Erickson’s haunting Cold Night For Alligators and Van Morrison’s classic Wild Night. Even these two songs are close to home for the lads, as Stu produced Roky’s original version of Alligators and John played on Van’s original hit version of Wild Night. This album was recorded in the late ’80s and the first of the ’90s, the songs and the playing epitomize what a contrast a REAL band, who actually write, play, and sing on their own recordings makes to so much of the plastic, pre-fab offerings of today.

Relevant Trivia

  • Jackdawg was a project that naturally evolved out of the dissolution of country rock band Southern Pacific, whose core lineup included John, Keith, and Stu plus keyboardist Kurt Howell (who went on launch a career as a successful solo artist, producer, and songwriter.)
  • John and Keith were both long time touring and recording members of legendary Japanese artist Eikichi Yazawa’s band during the years of the Jackdawg sessions.
  • Van Morrison’s version of Wild Night was Doobie Brothers producer (also Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, and more) Ted Templeman’s first hit record as a producer – and John McFee played on the record.
